About this tour

Travel from the wetlands and grasslands of eastern Assam into the montane forests of the Mishmi Hills, then finish among the lowland evergreen trees of Dehing Patkai. This private seven-day route uses Dibrugarh as its gateway and is designed for birders who want to explore several sharply contrasting habitats in one journey.

The first field sessions take place around Maguri Beel and the nearby grasslands. The route then crosses toward Roing and climbs the Mishmi Hills road, with two full days available for different elevations around Mayodia Pass. These forests support a distinctive Himalayan bird community, including several localized and season-dependent species.

The final section descends to Dehing Patkai for lowland rainforest birding. Guided walks, jeep-based observation, boat birding and selected night sessions may be used where conditions and local access allow. Accommodation follows the route through homestays and a tented ecostay, while the exact properties are confirmed for the selected departure.

Wild birds are never guaranteed. The operator expects a broad species list across the complete route, but individual targets vary with season, weather, access and bird activity. Current dates, party size, price, transfers and the final inclusions are confirmed after a BirdWatch inquiry.

Itinerary

Day 1
Dibrugarh arrival and Maguri Beel
Maguri Beel

Meet in Dibrugarh and travel to the Maguri Beel area. Use the remaining daylight for the first wetland and grassland birding session, with boat-based observation where local conditions allow. Settle into a local homestay for the night.

Day 2
Grasslands, Roing and the lower Mishmi Hills
Roing and Jia Grasslands

Begin with early birding in the grasslands around Roing and Jia, then continue toward the Mishmi Hills. Search suitable roadside and forest-edge habitat as elevation increases before reaching the tented ecostay.

Day 3
Mishmi Hills road and Mayodia elevations
Mayodia Pass

Work upward through several forest zones along the Mishmi Hills road. The guide selects stops according to weather, road access and current activity, with time for localized babblers, shortwings, trogons and other mountain birds.

Day 4
Second full day in the Mishmi Hills
Mayodia Pass

Return to productive elevations and quieter trail sections around Mayodia Pass. The second full day allows the group to revisit promising areas and adjust the search to seasonal targets and any species missed on the previous day.

Day 5
Mishmi Hills to Dehing Patkai
Dehing Patkai National Park

Descend from the mountains and travel into eastern Assam. Birding stops may be made along the route before reaching the Dehing Patkai area and checking into a local homestay near the rainforest.

Day 6
Full-day Dehing Patkai rainforest birding
Dehing Patkai National Park

Spend the day in and around the lowland evergreen rainforest. Guided walking, jeep access and carefully chosen observation points are used according to local permissions and conditions, with the possibility of a night birding session.

Day 7
Return to Dibrugarh
Dehing Patkai National Park

After breakfast, leave the Dehing Patkai area and return to Dibrugarh Airport for the onward journey. The transfer time is coordinated with the confirmed flight schedule.
