About this tour

This western Himalayan program follows a broad elevation gradient, starting in the lowland forests around Corbett before climbing through Kaladhungi, Sattal and Ranikhet to the high country around Chopta and Tungnath. The changing habitats support markedly different bird communities, from river and sal-forest species to pheasants, finches and high-altitude raptors.

Field time combines jeep safaris, roadside observation, bird hides and selected forest trails. The operator reports that 280 to 350 species may be recorded in a productive spring departure, although actual totals and individual targets vary with weather, elevation, access and migration timing.

The confirmed program runs for fourteen days and thirteen nights. The final proposal also confirms dates, accommodation, transfers, group size, price and inclusions.

Itinerary

Day 1
Corbett National Park

Begin with lowland forest birding and scheduled jeep safaris in Corbett, combining river-edge species, woodland birds and the possibility of larger wildlife.

Day 3
Kaladhungi and transfer to Sattal

Search the lower-elevation Kaladhungi forests, including an evening session for owls, before moving to Sattal for an introductory walk.

Day 5
Sattal hides, streams and forest trails

Rotate between bird hides, rocky streams, roadside viewpoints and forest trails for passerines, woodpeckers, kingfishers and other Kumaon specialities.

Day 8
Ranikhet

Finish any outstanding Sattal targets, then continue to Ranikhet for focused searches for Cheer Pheasant, Koklass Pheasant and other higher-elevation birds.

Day 10
Ranikhet to Chopta

Make the long road journey to Chopta, using suitable stops for birding when time and conditions allow.

Day 11
Chopta and Tungnath

Spend three days across the high-elevation habitats of Chopta and Tungnath, with Himalayan Monal as a central search alongside snow partridges, mountain raptors and other alpine birds.

Day 14
Final Chopta session and Dehradun departure

Use the last morning for additional birding around Chopta before the transfer to Dehradun Airport for an evening departure.
