About this tour

Explore Porter Lake Important Bird Area on a leisurely driving route east of Saskatoon. Lakeshore stops can reveal ducks, herons, cormorants, swallows and other waterbirds, with shorebird variety changing through spring and late-summer migration.

The guide identifies birds and sets up a spotting scope for distant views. April often brings breeding-plumage ducks; May can add avocets and other shorebirds, while later migration may produce plovers, yellowlegs and several sandpipers. No species is guaranteed.

The easy, three-hour programme covers about 70 kilometres return and uses frequent lakeshore stops. Participants supply their own or rented vehicle, and people with limited mobility may usually remain inside it.
