Explore three of the Kerinci region’s key birding areas on a seven-day, six-night private trip based at Homestay Subandi in Kersik Tuo, at the foot of Mount Kerinci.
Two full days are devoted to the Mount Kerinci forests between approximately 1,800 and 2,500 metres, followed by two days along Tapan Road and a day in the Lake Kaco forest. The itinerary is designed around difficult Sumatran specialties including pittas, pheasants, trogons, wren-babblers, leafbirds and the elusive Sumatran Ground-Cuckoo.

Meet at Padang airport or your Padang hotel and travel overland to Homestay Subandi in Kersik Tuo village. Settle in and prepare for the first full birding day.
Spend two full days birding Mount Kerinci’s montane forest. Priority species include Schneider’s Pitta, Sumatran Cochoa, Salvadori’s Pheasant, Red-billed Partridge, Sumatran Trogon, Sumatran Shortwing, wren-babblers, whistling-thrushes, Pink-headed Fruit Dove and Rufous-vented Niltava. Evening birding may seek Salvadori’s Nightjar, Sumatran Frogmouth and, with luck, Rajah Scops Owl. Overnight at Kersik Tuo.
Use two full days to explore Tapan Road for Graceful Pitta, Blue-masked and Sumatran Leafbirds, several endemic bulbuls, Sumatran Drongo, Sumatran Treepie, Sumatran Trogon, Sumatran Green Pigeon, Marbled Wren-Babbler and scarce forest flycatchers. Return to Kersik Tuo each night.
Visit the Lake Kaco forest with a special focus on searching for the elusive Sumatran Ground-Cuckoo and other forest birds encountered along the route.
Finish the tour and transfer overland to Padang airport or your Padang hotel.
