About this tour

This week-long spring tour combines two of north-eastern Poland’s richest wildlife areas: the primeval Białowieża Forest and the vast Biebrza Marshes. By early May most breeding birds have returned, and a total of approximately 140–150 species may be recorded.

Birding and wildlife highlights

In Białowieża the search concentrates on woodpeckers, Pygmy Owl, Nutcracker, Collared and Red-breasted Flycatchers, and Barred, Icterine and River Warblers. Evening outings target displaying Great Snipe, Corn Crake and Thrush Nightingale. Siemianówka Reservoir can add Penduline Tit, Citrine Wagtail and Greater Spotted Eagle.

At Biebrza the habitat changes to reedbeds, sedge marshes and open wetlands, with Aquatic and Savi’s Warblers, marsh terns, Bluethroat, Tawny Pipit, Ortolan Bunting, Red-necked Grebe and crakes among the targets. Mammal watching includes European Bison, Elk and an evening Beaver boat trip, with Wolf also possible.
